ExpressVPN remains a go-to for many thanks to its almost unrivaled premium feel and range of features. It tends to top our speed test charts, often sitting in ProPrivacy's top 3 throughout the year. Of course, this is perfect for streaming, especially if you want to get around geo-restrictions to access Netflix US.

I recommend ExpressVPN to anyone looking to unblock geo-restricted content on streaming services, seeing as it can access just about any streaming service out there – and it's quick enough to stream in HD, too! Many of us at ProPrivacy frequently use ExpressVPN as our main service to check out US Netflix, and being able to stream directly via your smart TV is another massive plus.

This VPN is also easy to set up on LG smart TVs, even if you don't have access to the Google Play Store. ExpressVPN offers a feature called MediaStreamer, which is essentially a Smart DNS service. By using this feature, there's no need for a VPN router or to mess around with connecting your smart TV to your computer. Users can simply alter the DNS settings on their TV to unblock streaming sites unavailable in your location. There's some easy to follow guides on this, on ExpressVPNs website.

Like others, ExpressVPN supports a wide selection of devices, most notably including Android and various smart TVs. Be sure to check if your LG devices are compatible before purchasing a subscription, but if you find that you've made a mistake, ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Whether you're trying to unblock geo-restricted content from your favorite streaming platforms such as Netflix US, hulu and BBC iPlayer, or just ensure your online privacy, NordVPN has thousands of speedy servers to choose from across 62 different countries.

NordVPN’s connection speeds, in our tests, make it one of the best VPNs to integrate into a router because it’ll be able to handle requests from multiple devices without a drop-off in performance. NordVPN doesn’t have a router app, but a partnership with Flashrouters means you can get NordVPN pre-installed on a router; they even offer a discount on the NordVPN website.

All of this is wrapped in a neat, affordable range of packages, backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee should you change your mind. If you do have issues though, I recommend checking in with the company's 24/7 live chat support before outright canceling your subscription, as they are both quick and reliable at answering queries.

Ideal for beginners or VPN experts, CyberGhost couldn't be more simple to use. This intuitive service actually lists the best servers for streaming, so you can spend less time looking for a server that unblocks the specific show or streaming service you're after, and more time actually watching it!

I have seen a fair few people have a nightmare flashing their router to install a VPN on it, but CyberGhost is as straightforward as you can get. They have a real penchant for doing things simply, and I was able to find instructions on their website for tonnes of router models. Once my friend got their VPN and running, they did feel accomplished - but also quite glad I recommended a VPN with such a good track record of unblocking things. A true reward for their hard work!

CyberGhost also offers more simultaneous connections than other providers on our list. You, and the family, can protect 7 devices at the same time with one subscription.

Its super-fast servers provide access to servers in 90 countries, unlocking several geo-blocked libraries including Netflix US, UK, Germany, and France. In fact, CyberGhost automatically connects you to servers that are reserved for Netflix, preventing traffic congestion and enabling everyone with good ISP speeds to stream in HD, uninterrupted. This is an extremely handy feature that makes this service an especially excellent VPN for LG TVs. If you do change your mind on any subscription longer than a month, you can always get a refund with the provider's lengthy 45-day money-back guarantee (6+ months plans).

Private Internet Access (PIA) is a US-based provider that has proven its zero-logs claim in court on multiple occasions. The VPN was recently acquired by Kape Technologies - a cybersec firm based in London whose primary aim is to help consumers gain protection online.

With PIA, you'll be able to access servers in 74 countries across the globe, which gives you tons of options. I tested it while streaming on YouTube and DailyMotion and thanks to unlimited bandwidth, I had no buffering issues. Considering the budget price of this VPN (especially when purchased yearly), I found PIA to be very fast. What's more, I also found it to work perfectly for accessing Netflix US, which makes it a great option for LG TV owners who want to stream more content.

I also loved the live chat support you get with this provider, which means that you can get help to set the VPN up or using it. What's more, you'll benefit from a 30-day money-back guarantee to test the VPN without risking your cash. PIA has a lot of advanced features, which I found to make the service super versatile and useful. That said, PIA also makes things great for beginners with Instant Setup and an auto-connect feature that makes it easy to set and forget.

First of all, don't be fooled by how cheap Surfshark is - this VPN providers a premium service for a bargain price, and is one of the most budget-friendly options on the market. Surfshark offers a full VPN toolkit with an abundance of features. Users can enjoy a smart DNS service, which makes it a lot easier to set up on your LG Smart TV.

Surfshark is based in the British Virgin Islands and is a no-logs VPN with great technical security thanks to sturdy AES-256 encryption and the OpenVPN protocol. Additionally, thanks to its unlimited connections, you'll be able to use Surfshark to protect all of your devices. This'll keep them secure at home and on the go, and you'll be able to unblock shows and movies without any pesky restrictions.

In our experience with Surfshark, I was amazed at how incredibly simple it was to get it set up on my router and running on our office smart TV. And with the smart DNS service, I could get it configured directly with the TV in a matter of seconds. I was completely blown away by Surfshark’s unblocking capabilities as well.  The advantages of using a VPN for LG Smart TV?

A world-class VPN for LG can be used on multiple devices simultaneously. Thus, subscribing to one of our recommended VPNs will not only unblock streaming services on your Smart TV but also on any other devices you might have – like an Android tablet, smartphone, iOS device, or laptop.

Once you've installed your VPN, you can enjoy a free internet and stay secured whilst you do so. You'll be able to use restricted services from back home whilst on vacation and check out content from other countries from the comfort of your couch.

Can I get a free VPN for my LG Smart TV?

Free VPNs are often very restrictive, being a means to entice you into purchasing a premium subscription. Worse yet, most free services are only free because they make money off their users by selling their data to third parties or tricking you into installing malware. This is exactly the opposite of what a VPN is supposed to do!

If you're adamant about using a free VPN, we'd strongly recommend checking out our secure picks via the link above.

How to install a VPN on an LG Smart TV

Depending on which operating system your TV runs, there are a number of ways to use a VPN service on your Smart TV. Below, we run through the steps so you can get your VPN working on your LG Smart TV.

How to set up an LG TV VPN with Android

Installing a VPN is simple if you have access to the Google Play Store on your LG TV. All you have to do is follow the steps below:

  1. Decide on your favorite VPN for LG smart TV. Our top recommendation is ExpressVPN because it unblocks pretty everything you could want, has servers in 94 countries, and it's lightning-fast.
  2. Subscribe to the VPN on their website.
  3. Install the software on your smart TV by downloading the app from the app store. Log in using the details you have just signed up with.
  4. Connect to a server in the country from which you want to access the content. We suggest that you choose a server closest to your actual location if possible, as this will improve your speeds. For example, if you're in the UK and want to connect to the USA, choose a server on the east coast.
  5. Start streaming content on your LG TV!

How to install an LG Smart TV VPN on your router

If your LG smart TV doesn't run Android, then unfortunately it isn't possible to install a VPN directly onto it. However, in those instances, you can still connect a VPN to your TV by using a VPN enabled router.

You may need a new router to do this. The one given to you by your internet service provider won't be sufficient, as most won't allow you to load a VPN onto them. However, VPN routers can be pricey.

If you are technically minded, then you can save yourself a bit of money by loading a VPN service onto your device yourself. There are two different forms of firmware that allow you to do this, DD-WRT or Tomato. However, if you do this wrong, you can brick your brand new VPN-ready router and render it completely useless. So it's extremely important that you know what you are doing and that you are fully comfortable with your ability to flash your router with the correct firmware.

We recommend that you avoid the hassle and purchase a pre-loaded VPN router from FlashRouters .

Follow the steps below to set up a VPN router with your LG Smart TV:

  1. Get your VPN pre-installed on a router. When a VPN is installed on a specially flashed (DD-WRT or Tomato) router, all the devices attached to that router are automatically protected by the VPN. This is much more convenient and means that all the devices in your home – including your LG smart TV – appear to be overseas. If this option is of interest to you, we recommend ExpressVPN , as the firm sells a pre-flashed router with the VPN already installed. For more options, check our article here.
  2. If a pre-flashed router is out of your price range, you can simply attach your smart TV to your PC or laptop and share its VPN connection. Doing so is simple – all you need is a speedy and reliable VPN provider, your PC connected to the internet via WiFi or Ethernet (adapter needed for Mac) and your smart TV attached to your computer with an Ethernet cable.

How to share a VPN Connection with your LG smart TV on Windows

  1. Make sure your PC or laptop is connected to your VPN service.
  2.  Connect your smart TV to your laptop or PC with an Ethernet cable.
  3.  Open Network and Sharing Center on your PC (Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center) and click on 'Change adapter settings.'
  4.  Locate your VPN connection. OpenVPN connections aren't always labeled well, so look for one called 'TAP-Win32 Adaptor V9' (or similar). Right-click on it and choose 'Properties' on the drop-down menu.
  5. Click on the 'Sharing' tab and select the 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection' box. Next, select 'Local Area Connection' from the menu (if your computer has more than one Ethernet port, please select the one your smart TV is connected to) and click 'OK.'
  6.  Finally, restart your smart TV and your computer.

For setting up a shared connection on a Mac, please take a look at our guide on how to set up a VPN on a smart TV.

LG Smart TV VPN: Conclusion

In this article, we've pinpointed the five very best VPNs for LG devices. With fast speeds, excellent customer care, free trial periods to test the services, servers all over the world, and strong security, these VPNs really are far superior to other services on the market.

Hi Rohan, Most smart TVs do not not natively support VPN apps (Android TVs excepted). We were not aware ExpressVPN claimed any different for LG TV's, which is why Ray discussed using a VPN router or sharing your PC's inter4net connection in this article. Note that ExpressVPN can, in fact, run on any VPN-capable router (including all DD-WRT routers).
