Why Do I Need a VPN to Watch ITV Hub Abroad?

ITV Hub is not officially available outside of the UK. This is because ITV is bound by its distribution and broadcast licensing rights. These copyright restrictions mean ITV must never allow its content to be shown outside of the UK. This is extremely frustrating if you are a UK resident on holiday  - or an expat who wants to watch ITV.

ITV Hub+, which is the premium subscription version of ITV's online video streaming platform, does allows British subscribers to access some content from overseas. The service costs £3.99 per month, and consumers can begin watching shows on it from April 1st.

However, in order to make use of ITV Hub+ you will need to reside in the UK and have a UK bank account (to sign up). With that in mind, it is much easier to watch ITV Hub with a VPN (and getting a VPN also means you get WiFi security, online privacy, safety from hackers, and the ability to unblock content from all over the world.)

If you are not from the UK  - or don’t want to pay for the + service, stick to using a VPN to watch the free version of ITV Hub. That way you will also be able to watch BBC iPlayer abroad as well as Channel 4, and other British TV!

How to Choose a VPN for ITV Hub

Some things are vital for a VPN to be suitable for watching ITV Hub. Firstly, the VPN must have the power to unblock ITV. This means it must have UK servers that work with ITV.

Our recommendations have all proven that they can keep bypassing ITV's blocks to provide their subscribers with access.

Next, you must ensure that you opt for a VPN that is fast. Some VPNs do unblock ITV, but are so sluggish that you'll never get to enjoy a show without buffering. Our recommendations are fast for streaming in HD.

What's more, all the premium VPNs that we have recommended are world-class services that provide strong encryption and privacy. As a result, these VPNs offer value for money: Providing access to blocked content from all over the world and security from hackers and surveillance.

Does ITV Hub Allow You to Use VPNs?

ITV Hub’s terms and conditions do not allow consumers to bypass their geo-restrictions. When you sign up and agree to the terms of service, you agree “not to attempt to access the applicable services, and not to attempt to circumvent any software or technical measures”.

It is for this reason that it is important to get a VPN that provides privacy as well as unblocking capabilities.

What's more, ITV Hub reminds users in its Terms and Conditions, that it reserves the right to delete any account. That is why we have only recommended VPNs that provide watertight privacy and security the best features to unblock ITV without being discovered.

i cannot understand the logic of the hub blocking vpns i think HOLA has been blocked,i lived in Bangkok + 6 hours, i can easily watch itv live, so what the hell is the problem of me watching a recording later, ok lets take Corrie, i can watch it at 2 am in the morning but not watch a recording the next day, its just illogical.

Hi ken, May I ask how you can watch ITV live in Bangkok? Services block VPNs because either they or the content creators strike regional deals with local broadcast services that rely on the content being exclusive. If viewers could simply watch the content for free on ITV Hub (or example), then it is hardly exclusive!
