How to unblock Sling TV outside the US

Getting access to Sling TV from outside of America is pretty easy once you have a VPN. Simply follow the steps below to get a subscription with Sling TV:

  1. Subscribe to a VPN provider that best suits your needs (we recommend using one of the providers listed above if you want to access Sling TV).
  2. Download and Install the software and login to the VPN using your credentials.
  3. Choose a VPN server in the USA and click connect.
  4. Head over to Sling TV and pick the plan you want.
  5. Pay for Sling TV using a valid US payment method (more on this below).

How to subscribe to Sling TV outside the US

If you live outside of the USA and you don't have a US credit card, then signing up to Sling TV will require a local payment method. We recommend either using a virtual credit card or a gift voucher.

A virtual credit card allows you to transfer funds on to a prepaid US credit card, so you can pay for US-based services like Sling TV. Virtual credit cards will charge you to sign up and use their service, however, this is usually a fairly minimal fee.

We recommend US Unlocked, because it provides a virtual card you can use to pay for Sling TV (or any other US service) from anywhere in the world. And US Unlocked comes with a valid US billing address, so that you can check out without any issues.

Get US Unlocked

To sign up for Sling TV outside the US using a virtual card, or gift voucher follow the steps below:

  1. Apply for a virtual card. There's plenty of services out there, but we recommend US Unlocked as it's reliable and easy to set up.
  2. Activate your virtual card. This will usually cost you a one-time activation fee, which is about $15.
  3. Load money onto your card.
  4. Connect to a US VPN server and navigate to Sling TV to pay with your US-based card.

Pay using a gift card:

  1. The most reliable way to use pay for Sling TV is to buy a Sling TV gift card on the Walmart website. Walmart is listed on the US Unlocked website so this will work, and you will receive your Sling TV voucher code in an email.
  2. Once you have paid for the voucher code simply head over to the website and pay for the service using the code.

Remember that Sling TV is purchased on a month by month basis – no long contracts and you can cancel at any time.

How we picked our Sling TV VPNs

A VPN for Sling TV allows consumers all over the world to pretend to be in the US. However, not all VPN services will unblock Sling TV.

There are some features that are vital if you are using a VPN for Sling TV. These are as follows:

Will a VPN stop Sling TV buffering?

There are dozens of VPNs on the market and not every service was created equally. The vast majority of VPNs have slow servers that will cause Sling TV to buffer a lot. The good news is that there are some VPNs on the market that have super fast servers. These will allow you to unblock SlingTV without any buffering.

However, please remember that a VPN cannot speed up the internet you pay your ISP for. If your internet is already too slow to stream SlingTV without buffering, a VPN will not be able to improve the situation (unless you are being subjected to ISP bandwidth throttling.)

If you want to try using a VPN to see if it helps your buffering issues on Sling TV, then you can easily test the water by making use of a VPN money-back guarantee. If your ISP is known to engage in traffic shaping and bandwidth throttling; you may be happy with the outcome!

What are the fastest VPNs for Sling TV?

Streaming content is a data-intensive task and so it's important to choose a fast VPN for Sling TV. To help you understand what the fastest Sling TV VPN is, we regularly test VPN speeds to ensure you get the fastest service. Check out the graph below for the latest results.

ExpressVPN NordVPN Private Internet Access
ProPrivacy.com SpeedTest (average) 100 85.9 62.2
Performance 10 9 8
Reliability 9 8 8
Speed 100 568.0 254.93

Can I use a free VPN for Sling TV?

Although there are some free VPNs available, it is vital that you are extremely careful when picking one. Most free services are unreliable and that harvest user data to sell to advertisers who then target you with ads. A lot of free services offer little to no encryption and some even contain malware. This is highly risky and will put your devices and privacy at risk.

If you want to use a free VPN with Sling TV, it is vital that you do your research before downloading a service. There are some free VPN services on the market that you can use without risk. However, please bear in mind that these free VPN plans are used to advertise a premium version of the provider's service.

As a result, the free version will come with the following limitations:

  • Data caps: you will only be able to use the VPN for a limited time.
  • A limited number of servers: free services often don't give you access to their full server network.
  • Bandwidth restrictions: This will slow your internet connection down.

If you want unrestricted access to Sling TV, you will require a full paid VPN subscription plan. If you have never used a VPN before you can try out a free VPN from the link above. And if you get annoyed by the limitations involved, you can always opt to try out an unrestricted service using the money-back guarantees that the VPNs in this guide all provide. Some also include VPN free trials.

Will my account get banned for unblocking Sling TV with a VPN?

Online services do not tend to penalize consumers for unblocking and accessing their services with a VPN. This is because they want to be able to sell as many subscriptions as possible. Thus, it is unheard of for people to have their accounts banned for using a VPN.

It is possible that the VPN IP address that you use to access SlingTV may become blocked by the service. If this happens, you will need to contact your VPN to find out which server to use.

Our recommended VPN providers make it their core mission to provide servers that are good for unblocking services like SlingTV. As a result, you should always be able to access your Sling TV account without problems.

What to do if your VPN isn't working with Sling TV

If your VPN isn't working with Sling TV it might have been blocked. If that is the case, we strongly recommend that you subscribe to one of the VPNs in this guide. If you are already subscribed to a VPN that is supposed to work with Sling TV we recommend trying the troubleshooting methods below:

  1. Restart your computer and the VPN software.
  2. Restart your browser.
  3. Try a different VPN server in the USA.
  4. Clear the cookies in your browser.
  5. Turn off geolocation services in your browser.
  6. Reinstall the latest version of your VPN.

If you're still having difficulty after these troubleshooting methods, we recommend contacting your VPN provider. They should be able to recommend a working server or provide further support.

What can I watch on Sling TV?

Solve Sling TVs blackout issue with a VPN

Even US subscribers who don’t need a VPN to access Sling TV can benefit from a VPN. Why? Because due to licensing restrictions, Sling TV can’t show certain TV channels, programs, and sports events all over the US. Those services are labeled on the Sling TV website as "select markets only.” Fox Sports, for instance, is only available in certain places. However, by using a VPN, US residents can access Fox Sports streams from different ZIP codes.

Here are some examples of what you could access from within the US using a Sling TV VPN:

Hi Fred, Is that an Alaska zip code? If so, then yes, you should be able to get a Sling TV no problem. The only issue (especially for many places in Alaska) is that because Sling TV streams content over the internet, you need a good fast internet connection for a seamless buffering-free experience.
