Why do I need a VPN?

As we mentioned before, VPNs allow you to bypass location restrictions, so you can use them to access ITV Hub from outside of the UK. But, remember that ITV Hub is actively seeking out and blocking VPN IP addresses - so not all VPNs will be able to successfully unblock ITV Hub.

That is why we have put together this article. The VPNs we have recommended are all known to unlock ITV Hub. Choosing from the best VPNs for ITV will help prevent problems such as buffering and low-resolution video. To avoid these issues, please ensure you stick to a recommended high speed VPN that provides a fast connection while still bypassing these geo-restrictions.

Why Do I Need a VPN to Access ITV Hub from Abroad?

ITV Hub is not available officially to anyone outside of the UK. Like most other video-on-demand platforms, ITV Hub is bound by distribution and broadcasting rights. This means they can’t show the content they have to all viewers around the world, but only to those in the United Kingdom. Because of this, they limit their content to people in the UK, or to UK residents in case you purchase ITV Hub+.

ITV Hub+, which is the premium paid subscription for the online video streaming platform, theoretically allows you to access content from overseas. The service costs £3.99 per month, and it will allow you to start watching shows from outside of the United Kingdom starting on April 1st.

The main problem with this is that you have to actually reside in the country as you’ll need a UK bank account to register for the plus version. The good news is that if you want to you can sign up using a Virtual Payment system like Entropay (and many others).

However, considering the fact that you can watch ITV Hub with a VPN (which also helps to improve your security levels), we reckon it is better to opt for a virtual private network instead.

If you are not a UK citizen or don’t want to pay for the plus service, then using a VPN and signing up for the free version of ITV Hub is the easiest way to watch British TV. Plus you will also be able to watch channel 4 and iPlayer!

How to Choose a VPN for ITV Hub

There are many factors you want to consider when choosing the best VPN for ITV Hub. The first thing you want to check on your VPN is the server locations.

Having servers in the UK allows you to access ITV Hub, and if a service provider doesn’t offer this option (all ours do) you won’t be able to access it at all.

Next, you have to think about how you intend to use your VPN. If you only want to watch ITV Hub, then you can focus on finding a VPN provider that has the right server locations, fast connections, and the ability to bypass geographic restrictions.

On the other hand, if you want to use your VPN to improve your privacy levels and browse the web freely, you may want to analyze their logs policy, where the company is based, and the payment options they have available.

Does ITV Hub Allow You to Use VPNs?

ITV Hub’s terms and conditions are painfully clear when it comes to bypassing their geo-restrictions. The online platform puts a location block on its content in order to comply with the terms of their broadcast and content licenses.

At the same time, when you sign up and agree to the terms of service, you also agree to “not to attempt to access the applicable services, and not to attempt to circumvent any software or technical measures”.

Which basically means that you agree not to attempt to lift these restrictions, let alone access blocked content. That is why it is important to use a VPN with strong privacy measures.

In the terms and conditions, it also states that ITV Hub has the right to delete any account for any reason whatsoever. So, it’s safe to assume your account will be terminated if you are caught using a VPN to access content outside of the UK. This is why it is important to use one a VPN with great security features, for a list of VPNs that will unblock other streaming services in the UK, take a look at our best VPN UK guide.

i cannot understand the logic of the hub blocking vpns i think HOLA has been blocked,i lived in Bangkok + 6 hours, i can easily watch itv live, so what the hell is the problem of me watching a recording later, ok lets take Corrie, i can watch it at 2 am in the morning but not watch a recording the next day, its just illogical.

Hi ken, May I ask how you can watch ITV live in Bangkok? Services block VPNs because either they or the content creators strike regional deals with local broadcast services that rely on the content being exclusive. If viewers could simply watch the content for free on ITV Hub (or example), then it is hardly exclusive!
