The Great Christmas Bake-Off: What to expect

The Great British Bake Off is a cooking competition that has been showing in the UK for 10 years. After channel-hopping, the show now resides on Channel 4, which means that anybody can watch it for free on its online player by unblocking All4.

The bake-off brings amateur bakers to the famous Bake-Off tent, where they compete by baking an assortment of baked delicacies. After each round, celebrity bakers Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith sample the finished bakes – to decide which amateur baker is the best.

In this year's Christmas special, ex-contestants Rosie Brandreth-Poynter, Jamie Finn, Ruby Bhogal and James Hillery all return to the Bake-Off the tent. In the New Year episode, Helena Garcia, Henry Bird, Nancy Birtwhistle and Rahul Mandal all return to the tent for 3 more bakes.

Joining the cast of chefs and judges will be Matt Lucas, whose stint as the presenter in the recent season gained him a lot of fans. However, in a bit of surprise departure, Noel Fielding – who has presented since 2017 – will not be presenting the two specials. That is because Fielding is a new father to a baby daughter and will be spending time with his family over the holidays. He will be replaced by comedian Tom Allen.

Channel 4 has yet to publish the exact air-dates for the yearly seasonal specials. However, if other years are anything to go by, you can probably expect them to air live on Christmas Day and New Year's day.

In the meantime, you can head over to Channel 4 to stream that previous Bake Off Christmas specials, which are already on the online player waiting to be streamed!

And, on Wednesday 16th, you can tune in to watch Gordon, Gino, and Fred: Desperately Seeking Santa. In addition, you can tune in for Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow Christmas Special on Christmas Eve.
