How to get a refund from ExpressVPN

Downloaded and paid for ExpressVPN, but realized the service isn't quite what you're looking for? Sounds like it's time for a refund. ExpressVPN offers their subscribers a generous money-back guarantee, which means you can get your money back easily. In this guide, we will list the step you need to take in order to get a refund from ExpressVPN.

 A bit about ExpressVPN's money-back guarantee

ExpressVPN is really confident in its service, so offer all their customers a thirty-day window within which they can claim their money back if they're not satisfied.

Just make sure you claim your money back within 30-days of the purchase, or else you'll only be able to cancel future subscription payments rather than claim back the money you parted with on purchase.

ExpressVPN does occasionally issue refunds in other circumstances. If the service hasn't been available to a customer for a given period of time, the provider may issue a refund if they've made efforts to contact the support team.

How to cancel your ExpressVPN subscription

Getting a refund from ExpressVPN is really easy – but first, it's a good idea to cancel your subscription, especially if you're nearing the end of your free trial period and closing your account might overlap with a 'new month'.

  1. Go to the ExpressVPN website
  2. Sign in to your VPN account on the site.
  3. Navigate to 'Manage subscription settings' on the dashboard.
  4. Click on 'Turn off Automatic Renewal'.

Your subscription with ExpressVPN has now been canceled!

How to request an ExpressVPN refund

The simplest way to get a refund from ExpressVPN is simply to contact their customer support team, who will process the refund for you.

Like most premium VPN providers, ExpressVPN has a well-oiled customer service team that will be processing these sorts of requests as quickly and efficiently as possible.

After your request is processed, the refund should appear in your bank account around five to seven business later.

How to get a refund if you purchased Express in the App Store

Unfortunately, ExpressVPN's 30-day money-back guarantee applies to all iterations of their software bar their iPhone app. However, you can request a refund from Apple directly, and here's how you do it:

  1. Open your browser and head over to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  2. Sign in to your Apple account with your Apple ID and password.
  3. Click on the 'Report a Problem' button next to the ExpressVPN app.
  4. Follow the on-page instructions and detail why you would like a refund.
  5. Submit your refund request.

Can I pause my ExpressVPN subscription?

It's becoming increasingly popular for subscription service providers in all sorts of sectors to offer a 'pause' option, where you can temporarily halt your subscription and pick it up again later. However, you cannot pause your ExpressVPN subscription. But with it being so simple to cancel, you can just axe it and then sign up again at some point in the future.

What should I do after I cancel my subscription?

Well, it depends on what your issue with ExpressVPN was and why you wanted your refund. If you feel like VPNs aren't a worthwhile investment for you, then you should definitely purchase great antivirus software. If you don't have a VPN or antivirus software, you'll have no line of defense against attacks.

Alternatively, if you're on board with the concept of VPNs but didn't quite get what you wanted out of ExpressVPN's service, then take a look at another of our favorite VPNs.

Surfshark is an excellent choice if you're on a budget – it's got a great record on privacy and is very user-friendly. NordVPN, on the other hand, is one of the fastest VPNs in the world and has some innovative security features, whilst Private Internet Access has thousands of servers around the world and is great for unblocking US streaming services. It is true that ExpressVPN does first try to help customers who want their money back because of issues with using the VPN. This is because it is a great service and users are often unaware that they can iron out any problem they are having quite easily. Following that they can go on to use the service perfectly. That said, any user who decides they do not want help and want a refund will always get one. This should not be considered a drawback in our opinion.
