NordVPN, a leading virtual private network (VPN) service provider, is now offering Threat Protection! This feature includes an ad-blocker and tracker blocker, as well as malware protection.
In the light of its tenth anniversary, NordVPN released a brand new safety feature – NordVPN's Threat Protection. The feature is integrated directly into the NordVPN app and has been developed in order to counterbalance ever-increasing cyber threats in the coming year by blocking trackers, intrusive ads, malicious websites, infected files, and even phishing attempts.
One feature, plenty of uses
A VPN is a great way to keep your connections private and secure; it changes your IP address, encrypts your online traffic, and even hides your online activities from snoopers. However, a VPN alone won't be able to neutralize all cyber threats – and that's where additional threat protection features are necessary. With that in mind, NordVPN is looking to evolve into a full security suite that will ensure the following:
- Malware protection – helps you avoid malicious websites and files if, by any chance, you stumble upon them. Threat Protection scans every website you visit, so if your device encounters a danger, your access will be subsequently restricted, and you'll see a warning message instead. Nord also claims it will immediately delete any file where malware is detected – and all before any of the malicious content can harm your device.
- Tracker blocker – whenever you wish to surf the web without being traced, tracker blocker is there to cover your back. Websites are generally swirling with third-party trackers that store your online activity information. They use this information about your previous purchases to create a digital footprint and swamp you with ads, or to convince you to buy something at a higher price (to make a purchase which normally you wouldn't).
- Ad-blocker – speaking of ads, they can be incredibly annoying, constantly interrupting your online activities. But that's not even the worst thing – these ads very often contain dangerous malware. Threat Protection, however, has an in-built ad-blocker, so you can browse, stream, and download online content carefree and without interruptions.
To use Threat Protection, all you need is to download the latest OpenVPN version of the NordVPN app from the official website. Once enabled, you can utilize the feature without connecting to a VPN server. Threat Protection is already available on all macOS devices, with Windows devices being next.
Moving forward, becoming an all-around cybersecurity solution
After Nord Security announced its merger with Surfshark to "open new technical knowledge-sharing opportunities", another great surprise arrived – a Threat Protection feature – confirming that, once again, Nord is determined to become an all-around cybersecurity solution.
At Nord Security, we know that cybersecurity evolves rapidly, and cybersecurity tools must evolve too. And as part of a broader effort to shift into a more encompassing cybersecurity company, introducing Threat Protection brings us one step closer... With the introduction of Threat Protection, we will be able to offer more services and more comprehensive protection that doesn't depend merely on your VPN connection.
In the official press release document, Maknickas added that "Threat Protection takes what was once the task of antivirus software and merges it with NordVPN". He reminded us that the threats are everywhere and anyone can end up falling victim, regardless of their previous online experience. "This is exactly why Threat Protection was introduced — to add a layer of security to make your online browsing safer, cleaner, and more private".
